Mosaikmuster

A patchwork of regions of differing lung attenuation, may represent:

  • Patchy interstitial disease
  • Obliterative small airway disease, or
  • Occlusive vascular disease

Causes

  • Mosaic perfusion
    • Small airways disease (90-95%)
    • Vascular disease
  • Ground glass opacity (GGO)

Mosaic perfusion

  • Geographic areas of abnormal lucent lung due to decreased perfusion
  • 50% of lung attenuation is derived from blood flow
  • Lucent lung is abnormal

Causes

  • Airways disease (90-95%)
    • Small airway obstruction (Air trapping) → ↓ ventilation → Hypoxia → Reflex vasoconstriction → ↓ blood flow → Lucent lung
  • Vascular disease
    • Small vessel occlusion (vascular stenosis/obstruction) → ↓ blood flow → Lucent lung
